Therse relatively coarse illustrations were constructed for use in teleconferences discussing the internal layout of the South Pole Telescope. They are from a relatively early stage of its design and do not show much detail (none existed in the designs, let alone in actual matter, at the time).
The purpose of the teleconference series was to set up the rough positioning of the knowsn pieces of internal hardware so that they would not interfere with each other or the path of light throught he instrument.

This is the final render (I) made of the SPT cryostat internal layout for the
teleconference serias. It is from a solid model that included the cold stages,
cryo-fridge, final lens, filter set, detector plane, and showed representative
light rays through the optics. (56k)

Right side view of the cryostat showing the rough outline of its exterior shape
as well as the placement of detectors, filters, lens, and cold stages. Note the
number of detector electronics cabinets (cyan) has been reduced a factor of two.

Front view of cryostat showing secondary mirror. (44k)

Right side wireframe view of cryostat showing mounting rail (representations)
secondary mirror, lens, filters, detectors, cold stages, and some representative
optical paths. Note the number of detector electronics cabinets (cyan) has been
reduced a factor of two. (72k)

Closer closeup of right side wireframe view: just the lens, filters, detectors,
and cold stages. (116k)

Front oblique wireframe view of same. (160k)

Front wireframe view without secondary showing. (64k)

Right side wireframe view of cryostat showing secondary mirror, lens, filters,
detectors, cold stages, and some representative optical paths. Note that the
separated cold stages have been combined. (16k)

Wireframe view perpendicular to cold stage axis. (16k)

Right side view of cryostat showing input window, light shield, lens, filters,
detectors, cold stages (note that they are separated here but would be coupled
by a copper strap), and some representative optical paths. (36k)

Top view. Note the two piece cold stages (green and brown). (32k)

View perpendicular to cold stage plane. (36k)

Right side wireframe view of cryostat showing primary mirror, mounting rail
(representations), secondary mirror, lens, filters, detectors, cold stages, and
some representative optical paths. (12k)

Right side wireframe view closeup of telescope enclosure, mounting rails, and
cryostat (and internals). (12k)
